This morning, Dirk and his mooks kidnapped my niece, tied me to a railroad bridge over a muddy stream teeming with manmade hybrid-monsters, and filmed the whole event (and then some) for some stupid reality show.
What’s worse, Dirk saddled me with Oopy-Doupy-Dew, my niece’s sentient doll who can talk (but only in rhymes, which is just “great,” let me tell you). Not cool, Dirk.
Listen: I know that dolls shouldn’t be able to talk. I also know that man-sized rattlesnake-salamanders, and Wheel-Eel-Deals (don’t ask) shouldn’t exist. Three-eyed, human-toothed puppies shouldn’t be able to bicker incessantly, especially not in a Cockney accent.
But all these things are all-too-real, and I need to deal with them. My life, and my niece’s life, and even the life of that crazy, talking doll ALL depend upon me winning this battle against Dirk and his goon-squad. Oh, but don’t worry: Dirk left me with a few throwing stars, an illegal knife, some anti-allergy spray … and Oopy-Doupy-Dew.
This morning is about to get … dicey.

An excerpt from J.A.Y. vs. Dirk
Today could’ve started better.
When I woke up this morning, I was tied, facedown, to a railroad track. Splinters bit into my forehead, which was already throbbing from having been blind-sided by Dr. Dirk Berkahdian, or, more likely, one of his mooks.
Between the railroad ties, I could see that the track was suspended over a wooded gulch. Cutting through that gulch, 20 or 30 feet below, was a muddy stream. Shadowy, sinewy shapes shuffled about in that slow torrent, sliding and struggling past one another, as they strove to stay beneath the bridge.
Beneath me.
As my eyes adjusted, I noted the pink glint of an eye, the shimmer of a fang.
Gators? Knowing Dirk, probably worse.
In the distance, a train horn sounded.
The track began to rumble.
Great, I thought.
Worst.
Morning.
Ever.
And the moment I thought that, I knew that today would only get worse.

Jared Weber is a nearly bionic man.
Highly skilled in martial arts (Master Weber is a Fifth Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do) and in gymnastics, Weber is also an accomplished performer, coach, artist, and an award-winning writer.
He lives with his wife and underlings (two felines of a more-or-less mercenary nature) in an undisclosed bunker.
